110 | DUE SOUTH AUSTRALIA | FLEURIEU PENINSULA | www.duesouthaustralia.com.au TOP 5 Experiences Historic Goolwa stands at the mouth of the Murray River on Lake Alexandrina and you’ll find all types of water sport. Goolwa is also a mecca for anglers. The Murray Mouth and Goolwa Beach are both popular fishing spots. Other attractions include a steam railway, paddle steamers, a microbrewery, long distance cycling track and the weekly farmers’ market. GOOLWA 3 This popular seaside destination is now emerging as a major wildlife centre. Granite Island is home to a colony of Little penguins, while the town itself is a perfect location for viewing Southern Right whales between May and October each year. The lovely old Cockle Train will take you along the coast to Port Elliot. 4 VICTOR HARBOR 5 DEEP CREEK CONSERVATION PARK The Fleurieu Peninsula is the larder for South Australia – producing some of the state’s best homemade breads, jams and relishes, creamy cheeses, grass-fed meat and exotic foodstuffs such as venison, pheasant and quail. Find all this and more at the Willunga Farmers Market, which is a gathering place for the whole community. WILLUNGA FARMERS MARKET 1 A 40 minute drive from Adelaide, this lovely stretch of sand is ideal for body boarding, a swim or a family picnic. Pick up some supplies from Blessed Cheese in McLaren Vale before hitting the beach. And there’s no need to trudge across the sand – for a small fee you can park your car on the beach and dive straight into the ocean. 2 ALDINGA BEACH Deep Creek is a paradise for bushwalkers. The large conservation park offers a network of walking trails, rugged terrain and 18 kilometres of unspoilt coastline. Keep an eye out for Western Grey kangaroos, Short-beaked echidnas and over 100 bird species. Discover some sandy coves which are only accessible by foot. FLEURIEU PENINSULA
