SURFING SAFARI 5 At the very tip of the peninsula, this national park is an area of rugged cliffs, beaches and classic Australian bush. Spend a few nights camping under the stars at Pondalowie Bay, Casuarina or Shell Beach. Campers are likely to see plenty of native fauna, plus migrating whales between May and September. 4 INNES NATIONAL PARK 3 INDIGENOUS CULTURE With Blue Swimmer crab, Australian salmon and Southern Rock lobster in its waters, there’s no surprise that Yorke Peninsula is a popular haunt for recreational fishers. While many people are content to cast a line from a jetty, it’s fun to join a fishing charter and go after something bigger. Overnight charters available. CATCH OF THE DAY 1 Thanks to its clear, deep ocean the peninsula offers some of the best diving in South Australia. Divers of all levels can see rich marine life and colourful corals just off the Edithburgh jetty. More experienced divers will want to explore the 26 shipwrecks between Yorke Peninsula and Kangaroo Island. 2 SCUBA DIVING See the Yorke Peninsula through the eyes of its traditional owners, the Adjahdura people, and take an informative, small group tour. Aboriginal Cultural Tours offer a variety of tours. Hear dreaming stories that explain the layout of the land, experience cultural ceremonies and learn about Point Pierce settlement.
